Breast Reduction Surgery (Reduction Mammaplasty)

Regain Comfort, Balance, and Confidence

Breast reduction surgery (reduction mammaplasty) is a procedure designed to remove excess breast fat, glandular tissue, and skin to achieve a breast size that is more proportional to your body. It aims to relieve discomfort associated with overly large breasts (macromastia), including both physical and emotional distress.

Macromastia can cause chronic pain in the neck, shoulders, and back, limit physical activity, and affect posture. It may also lead to emotional challenges such as low self-esteem and body image concerns. Even patients without physical symptoms may choose breast reduction for aesthetic or lifestyle reasons.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction?

You may be a suitable candidate for breast reduction surgery if you:

  • Are physically healthy

  • Feel discomfort or self-consciousness due to large breasts

  • Experience back, neck, or shoulder pain

  • Have skin irritation under the breast fold

  • Notice bra strap indentations on your shoulders

  • Have limitations in physical activities due to breast size

Procedure Overview

  1. Anesthesia: Typically performed under general anesthesia or intravenous sedation.

  2. Incision: Most commonly around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease (“anchor” or “keyhole” pattern).

  3. Tissue Removal & Reshaping: Excess fat, skin, and tissue are removed; the nipple and areola are repositioned. In some cases, a free nipple graft may be necessary.

  4. Closure: The incisions are sutured or sealed using skin adhesives or surgical tape. Scars fade over time.

  5. Results: Immediate improvement is visible. Over the following weeks, swelling reduces and final shape sets in.

  • Bandages and a support bra will be applied
